PRESIDENT PAYS ATTENTION TO DEMOS VOICING "POSITIVE CRITICISM"
Jakarta, June 27 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said he always paid attention to people's aspirations conveyed through various channels, including demonstrations to voice "positive criticisms."
"Go ahead, criticize. Criticims are like medicine. When there is a demonstration, I always look at its theme and ask myself what inputs it holds. As a leader, I need inputs," the President said at the opening of an innovative public services exhibition here on Friday.
He said "positive and good" rallies were those conducted in "an orderly manner and touching on issues reflecting people's aspirations."
Yudhoyono also said it was only proper to expect that people in the government as servants and administrators of the state do everything they can in the people's interest.
Meanwhile, State Minister for State Administrative Reform Taufik Effendi on the occasion said, making improvements to public services was part the efforts to create a clean government.
"We are continuously trying to improve public services and to this end we always invite all provincial and district leaders to cooperate in the effort," Effendi said.
The provincial and district leaders were made to participate in efforts to improve public services by changing their ways of thinking and attitudes in serving the public, the minister said.
He reported, the number of regional administrations providing integrated public services had since 2005 increased significantly.
In 2005, only six district and municipal administrations were giving integrated public services but in 2006 the number rose to 95 and in 2007 to 295 while by the middle of this year the number was 315, he said.
Effendi said the benefits of better public services were not only enjoyed by the public but also by the district administration heads themselves.
A total of 172 provincial governors, district heads and mayors across the country were elected for second terms in their respective regions because the people credited them with having improved public services. The officials all won more than 80 percent of the votes, he said.
The exhibition at Senayan displayed a range of state administrative services that had been made more efficient or more convenient for the public such as mobile driving license issuing services, the printing of driving licenses using chip technology.
