Iran-Turkey ink MoU after D8 meet

Tehran, March 3, IRNA – Iran and Turkey inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on issues of mutual interests here on Tuesday.
The MoU was signed by Iran's Industries and Mines Minister Ali-Akbar Mehrabian and Turkish Industry and Trade Minister Nihat Ergun at the end of First Meeting of D8 Member States’ Industries Ministers.
According to the MoU, the two sides have agreed to cooperate in the fields of car manufacturing and spare parts industry, construction and constructing materials, textile, wood and paper industry.
Iran and Turkey also called for expanding joint investment between two countries or the third parties in the fields of industry and trade.
The First Meeting of D8 Member States’ Industries Ministers opened in Tehran on Tuesday by Mehrabian. Over 500 Iranian and foreign officials and experts participated in the one-day event.
Minister and delegate members of the eight Islamic industrial countries participated in the meeting.
Established in 1997 in Turkey, the group consists of Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey.
It is a group of developing countries with large Muslim population that have formed an economic development alliance.
The combined population of the eight countries is about 60 percent of the Muslim people, or close to 13 percent of world’s population.
Among the main objectives of D8 are upgrading their position in the world economy, creating new opportunities in trade relations, enhancing their status in decision-makings at international level and providing higher standards of living for their people./end
