Tehran, Ankara ink MOU on border industrial park

TEHRAN, March 3 (MNA) – Iran and Turkey signed here on Tuesday an MOU for building a joint border industrial park.

High-ranking officials of the two countries call for unison among Islamic states and creating industrial parks on borderlines will lead to security and welfare in the region, said deputy industry minister Khodamorad Ahmadi.

Ahmadi added, “Luckily these days we witness collaboration between the countries’ high level officials and we hope this relation will work as a ‘paradigm’ for expanding ties with other regional countries.”

Turkey's Artisanship and Small Industrial Sites General Director Ramazan Yildirim pointed to the current condition of global economy and said the trade between Iran and Turkey is low in sight of the two countries’ capacities.

He hoped that by establishing the industrial parks the present transactions will jump to a predicted $30 billion from the existing $10 billion.

As of June 2009, Turkey was on the top five of Iran’s major trading partners at 5.6% of total imports and exports, following the EU, China, Japan and South Korea, respectively.
