Iran Envoy: IAEA’s shortcomings should be eliminated

Vienna, March 3, IRNA – Iran’s Ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency, (IAEA) Ali Asghar Soltanyieh said, he expects that the weaknesses of IAEA would be eliminated with the collective work of members and the Agency would be placed on its real course.
Soltanyieh was speaking to IRNA Tuesday after the second day of a meeting of IAEA’s Board of Governors. The agenda of the meeting was ‘the future of IAEA’.
Soltanyieh said,” During the past year, many sessions have been held to discuss the future of IAEA and the prospect of this international organization and we have put forward our views and voiced certain criticisms of the IAEA which can return it to its real course.”
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has serious concerns over the IAEA’s orientation especially in the past few years,” the envoy said.
“We expect that with a collective work with countries which think in the same way, the IAEA’s shortcomings should be eliminated. This is an international organization and should be used for development of peaceful use of nuclear energy and should not be turned into an organization of inspection and control,” said Soltanyieh. /end
