Thailand to deport detained Chinese drug suspect

BANGKOK, March 2 (TNA) – Thai police on Tuesday arrested a Chinese drug trafficking suspect and will deport him in response to a request from Chinese authorities, the head of Thailand's Department of Special Investigation (DSI) said Tuesday.

DSI director-general Tharit Pengdit said Huang Nan Xing, 42, evaded an arrest warrant issued last July by the Chinese police and the International Criminal Police Organization(Interpol).

Mr Huang was charged in China’s Guangdong Province with possessing 300kg of ketamine for sale in July, 2009.

Mr Huang was detained in Thailand's northern province of Chiang Rai Tuesday morning with an initial charge of violating Thailand’s immigration laws.

He will later be deported to China to stand trial as requested by the Chinese government, the DSI chief said.

Ketamine, widely used as an animal tranquilizer, is abused by teens to get high, causing visual distortions and a loss of time. (TNA)
