Police to issue arrest warrant for suspect in Narathiwat bombings

NARATHIWAT, March 2 (TNA) – Police investigating Tuesday's bombings in Narathiwat have leads on identifying a bombing suspect at a local bank where two people were wounded after assessing images retained on a closed circuit television (CCTV) recording, the provincial police
chief said Tuesday.

Pol. Maj-Gen. Chaithat Intanujit, Narathiwat police commander, said a sketch of the male suspect has been drawn from the image recorded by a Government Housing Bank surveillance camera before asking the court to issue an arrest warrant.

Local police have reported the progress of the investigation to Pol. Lt-Gen. Adul Saengsingkaew, assistant to the police chief, prior to his visit to hear reports on the situation in this southern border
province.

After a series of bombings Tuesday morning, security measures in all districts were reinforced and additional checkpoints were set up.

More security personnel was deployed at government offices and in communities and they were instructed to more closely monitor insurgency-targeted areas.

The separate bombings occurred early Tuesday morning, wounding two persons in the provincial seat and Rangae district.

Three bombs exploded, one at a Krung Thai Bank ATM booth and others near two branches of the Government Savings Bank in the provincial seat.

The Rangae bombing occurred at an Government Savings Bank ATM. Another bomb was found at the ATM booth, but officials were able to disarm it before it exploded.

One bomb each at Krung Thai Bank and the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Co-operatives ATMs in Sungai Kolok were defused.

In addition, a roadside bomb was detonated remotely in Bacho district, but no one was reported wounded in the incident. (TNA)
