Sanctions will not affect Iran: Head of Iranology Section at Russian Academy of Sciences:

Moscow, March 2, IRNA – Nina Mamedova, the Head of the Iranology Section of the Oriental Studies Center at the Russian Academy of Sciences, said that sanctions will have no affect on Iran since all Iranians have gotten used to western sanctions since 1979.

According to IRNA correspondent in Moscow, the Russian Federation’s highly circulated Vermia Novesty further quoted Mamedova in its Monday edition as saying, “Iran has had a constantly growing gross national product (GNP) throughout the recent years and has become a good market for many world powers, among which China ranks first.”

The Russian academician added, “Therefore, Iran should be convinced to cooperate with the international community through diplomatic ways and resorting to moves that would intrigue the ruling religious system to reply severely is to be abandoned.”

The Russian daily has also published an article by Peter Alexandrev, its political analyst, who believes, “Russia acts quite conservatively towards the sanctions issue against Iran and does not approve of them presently.”

Alexandrev has in his article quoted the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov as saying that imposing more sanctions against would not lead to achieving any favorable results.

Lavrov adds, “On pretext of blocking the path for proliferation of nuclear weapons we do not wish to pursue other objectives, such as further segregation of Iran to an extent to leave negative effects over the status in that country.”/end
