Two wounded in seven bomb attacks at banks in Narathiwat

NARATHIWAT, March 2 (TNA) – Two civilians were injured in bombings at seven banks in the violence-plagued province of Narathiwat.

In the provincial seat, three bomb explosions were reported while four others occurred in Rangae and Sungai Kolok districts.

A bomb went off in the municipality at an ATM booth at the Krung Thai Bank, wounding Prom Siriporn, 46, a street sweeper.

Two other bombs exploded near the two branches of the Government Savings Bank.

In Rangae district, a fourth bomb occurred at an ATM booth of the Government Savings Bank, wounding a 26-year-old man, identified as Charnwit Uepanyasil. Another bomb was reported at an ATM booth of the Krung Thai Bank but bomb experts destroyed it with a high-pressure water gun.

In Sungai Kolok, two bombs were found at ATM booths of the Krung Thai Bank and the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Co-operatives. Bomb disposal teams defused both of them.

Meanwhile, a roadside bomb was detonated by a remote signal in Bacho district, but no one was wounded in the incident.

After the bombings in Narathiwat early Tuesday, soldiers from a special unit used the GT 200 bomb detectors and signal jammers to screen all banks in Yala municipality. Officials are patrolling the areas although there has been no report of an attack in Yala so far. (TNA)
