Al-Arhabi: Yemen is keen to reach Millennium Development Goals

RIYADH, Feb.28 (Saba)
- Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Abdul Karim al-Arhabi confirmed
on
Sunday Yemen's keenness to reach the Millennium Development Goals.
He pointed to the importance of donor interventions to help Yemen to achieve the
Millennium Development Goals which their tracks have been defined accurately.
Al-Arhabi stressed the need to accelerate the allocation of donor pledges to Yemen
as well as to identify and define methods of implementation and enforcement of
those allocations
so as to contribute to enable the government to fulfill its developmental obligations.
Speaking to Saba, al-Arhabi said that the fourth five-year plan will focus on
expanding educational opportunities in rural areas, health services, and social
security programs
as well as the areas of Yemeni labor absorption in the GCC markets.
Furthermore, the World Bank stressed the significance of strengthening
international support for Yemen by donors.
In a speech represented at the session of the joint work team between the Yemeni
government and donors held at the headquarters of the GCC Secretariat in Riyadh,
the bank
pointed to the importance of donors' direct support to the Yemeni government to
promote and support the general budget of the state in Yemen.
