Larijani returns home from Japan

Tehran, Feb 28, IRNA -- Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said his trip to Japan was a good opportunity to expound on Iran’s viewpoints on regional and international issues.

Speaking to reporters at Mehrabad Airport on Sunday morning after returning from his 5-day visit to Japan, Larijani said he met with parliament speaker, Foreign minister, and prime minister of Japan and discussed with them regional and international issues.

Larijani said, ”I also consulted with Japanese officials on important regional problems such as Afghanistan as well as Iran’s nuclear issue. They are interested to cooperate with us on Afghanistan infrastructures.”

Criticizing the role of NATO in Afghanistan, Larijani said unfortunately, NATO has only a military role in Afghanistan and takes no heed of people’s basic problems.

“In my trip, I had a good chance to sit with Japanese businessmen and politicians and discuss with them ways of developing commercial exchanges,” said Larijani.

He also pointed to his useful meetings with the elites and university professors in Japan.

Larijani called his meeting with the head of Japan’s Supreme Court ‘satisfactory’ and said the Japanese have done a great deal in the field of ‘culture making’ in order to reduce crimes and their valuable experiences in this field can be inspiring for us.

The Majlis speaker also expounded on his visit to the city of Nagasaki and its Peace Memorial./end
