Mottaki-D8 Secretary-General hold talks

Tehran, Feb 28, IRNA, Minister of Foreign Affairs Manouchehr Mottaki and Secretary General of D8 Muslim Countries Dipo Alam discussed ways of promoting cooperation between member countries.
According to Foreign Ministry Media Department, in the meeting, Mottaki, referring to discussions in D8 foreign ministers meeting in Kuala lumpur, said those discussions and the approaches of member states show the new outlook of the members to the Group’s potentials and important tasks that it can carry out.
Mottaki, pointing to the common stances of the member states including Tehran and Jakarta, said the continuation of consultations and promotion of cooperation are in favor of members of the Group.
Mottaki said the Group should create new ideas to give more momentum to its work.
Dipo Alam, for his part, expounded on the latest developments in the Group and said Iran and Indonesia, along with other members, have important roles in developing the activities of the Group in the region and the world.
He said Iran, with its new ideas in economic cooperation and common investment, has an outstanding role in promoting cooperation.
D8 is a group of developing countries with large Muslim population that have formed an economic development alliance. It consists of Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey. The Group was formed in 1997./end
