Rigi’s arrest will boost Pak-Iran trust level: Pak Journalist

Islamabad, Feb 28, IRNA -- A senior Pakistani journalist said that the arrest of terrorist Abdolmalek Rigi is a positive step and will help in eliminating the mistrust that has existed between Pakistan and Iran on the Jundallah issue.
In an interview with IRNA on Saturday, Hamid Mir added that this event will now clearly prove that US is backing Jundallah with the aim of destabilizing Iran.
The capture of Abdolmalek Rigi will clearly reveal who actually was behind the terrorist group, he stressed.
Elaborating his views on the issue, Hamid Mir further said that Iran has accused Pakistan for supporting the activities of Jundallah, but now it clearly proves that America’s CIA was behind that militant group.
The journalist suggested Pakistan and Iran to hold joint operations on Pak-Iran border to control the activities of Jundallah.
Hamid Mir to a query said that US has been using Jundallah to destabilize Iran and Pakistani province of Balochistan.
“Jundallah was formed in 2003 and US had entered into Afghanistan in 2001, US created Jundallah to create unrest in the region, they want to remain present in the region for a long period”, the journalist opined.
Replying to a question he said that motive of Jundallah is to cultivate distrust between Pakistan and Iran.
He said that US is interested in establishing air bases in Pakistani Balochistan and wants to open a consulate in Quetta but still they have not been given permission by the Pakistani government.
“Earlier US had airbases in Pakistan at Pasni and Jeccobabad but now these bases have been removed”, the journalist said.
Hamid Mir viewed that in 2003 there were three major developments, US entered Afghanistan, US established airbase inside Afghanistan near Iran border and lastly Jundallah was formed.
“Jundallah is also encouraging extremist elements, we have to understand that formation of Jundallah is a grand plan”, the analyst said.
Hamid Mir opined that activities of Jundallah will not come to an end because of Rigi’s arrest.
Since 2003, Jundallah members have carried out over 50 terrorist operations in Iran.
The government of Iran has accused them of mass murder, armed robbery, kidnapping, carrying out bombings targeting civilians and government officials, and acts of sabotage.
In their latest attack, which occurred on October 18, more than 40 Iranians, among them 15 members of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), lost their lives when Jundallah terrorists carried out an operation in the border region of Pishin, which is located in Iran's southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan.
Iran has accused that Rigi has close links with a terrorist outfit al-Qaeda besides it did have the backing of US and UK.
