Rigi’s capture big blow to Jundallah: Pakistani analyst

Islamabad, Feb 27, IRNA - Pakistani security analyst Asif Ezdi on Friday said that arrest of Jundallah leader Abdolmalek Rigi is a big blow for militants and would definitely affect the operations of Jundallah.
Speaking to IRNA, he said that Pakistan has never supported terrorism and arrest of Abdolmalek Rigi inside Iran shows that Pakistan was not behind Jundallah.
“I believe that arrest of Abdolmalek Rigi is a positive development and would improve the trust level between Pakistan and Iran”, he viewed.
Rigi who led a terrorist group Jundallah operating in southeast of Iran was arrested by Iranian security forces.
Rigi and his terrorist group, operating mostly in southeastern parts of the country, are responsible for killing of tens of innocent and defenseless citizens.
Iran suspects Jundallah of having links with the al-Qaida terror group, gained notice six years ago with sporadic attacks and kidnappings.
Iran says Jundallah is financed by the US government to destabilise their country.
Among numerous terrorist actions committed by the Rigi terrorist group was a bomb attack on a meeting of top IRGC commanders and local tribal leaders in the town of Sarbaz.
Asif Ezdi said that the arrest of Abdolmalek Rigi is an important development and would help in improving Pakistan-Iran relations.
“Pakistan never supported terrorism and terrorists should understand that there is no room for them to operate on Pakistani soil”, he added.
The analyst was of the view that certainly Jundallah is a militant organization but it is still not very clear that who is behind the militant group.
Asif Ezdi said Pakistan is committed to eliminating terrorism and it is imperative that Pakistan and Iran work in harmony for peace in the region.
The analyst said that “Iran’s interest is Pakistan’s interest and we have no links with Jundallah.”
He was of the opinion that both Iran and Pakistan are aware of their position and trying to address the problems they are facing.
“Extradition of Jundallah leaders by Pakistani authorities to Iran was the highlight of cooperation between the two countries on the contentious issue of Jundallah.
Pakistani National Assembly Speaker Fehmida Mirza, during her recent trip to Tehran, had disclosed at a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki that a number of Jundallah militants were arrested in Pakistan and extradited to Iran.
