Delhi to consider incentives on sale of hybrid cars

New Delhi, June 26 (PTI) - In a move to encourage carmakers
to introduce more hybrid vehicles on the roads of the National
Capital, the Delhi government Wednesday said it could
incentivise selling of such cars for a greener city.

"Let them (carmakers) come out, we will definitely see
and consider (for giving incentives)," Delhi Chief Minister
Sheila Dikshit told reporters on the sidelines of launching
the electric car REVAi here.

Delhi offers a total of 29.5 percent tax and other
rebates to sale of REVAi to promote the environment friendly
car.

When asked if the government would consider a similar
kind of tax rebates, she said, "... we will be really happy to
encourage such vehicles, but they have not come to us yet."

Recently, Honda Siel launched the hybrid version of its
luxury sedan Civic in the country, priced at Rs 21.5 lakh (ex
showroom, Delhi), which is almost double than its petrol
version. Other carmakers, like Mahindra & Mahindra and Toyota
are also working for long to introduce fuel efficient and less
polluting hybrid cars from their stables. PTI
