20 injured as beetles attack devotees in temple function

Madurai, June 26 (PTI) - At least 20 persons were injured
when a swarm of forest beetles stirred by smoke from during
temple ceremony near here stung priests and several devotees.

Many people had gathered for the consecration of a Lord
Ganesh temple at hilly Narasingam in the past two days. They
suffered sting injuries and were rushed to hospital with
swollen faces for treatment.

Officials said there are many colonies of bees and other
insects near the Yanamalai, a hill where the temple is
located. PTI
