Iran's foodstuff exports near $1b

TEHRAN, Feb. 24 (MNA) – Iran exported some 598,000 tons of foodstuff worth $940 million in the fist ten months of the current Iranian calendar year (started March 20, 2009), the deputy director of Iran's Trade Promotion Organization said here on Tuesday.

The amount showed 18 percent increase in terms of value and 25 percent decrease in terms of volume compared to the same period in the last year, Fathollah Kermanshahi noted.

“It is estimated that the nation’s foodstuff export will hit $1 billion by the end of the year,” he added.

Candy, confectionary, dairy products, tomato paste, fruit juice and concentrate, mineral water, and macaroni are among the major exported items.

Kermanshahi also named Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Turkey, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and Syria as the main destinations for the Iranian-made foodstuffs.
