Bid to sell four-day old baby foiled
Coimbatore, Jun 26 (PTI) A woman's alleged bid to sell a
four-day-old baby to a childless couple for between Rs 10,000
to Rs 20,000 at Perumallur, about 55 km from here, was foiled
by public and police.
Police alleged the wife of a construction worker near
Tirupur reportedly sold her four-day old baby, delivered at
the government hospital in that town on June 20, to the woman
Tuesday for Rs 40, expressing her inability to look after a
second child.
On coming to know about this, a childless couple
approached the woman and offered an amount ranging from Rs
10,000 to Rs 20,000 for the child, police said.
Suspecting foul play, neighbours informed the village
head and also the Perumanallur police station.
After preliminary enquiries, the village head handed over
both the women to the police, who after a warning, asked the
mother to look after the child and not to offer it for sale
in future, the sources said. PTI
