Larijani stresses need for expansion of co-op with Tokyo

Tehran, Feb 23, IRNA – Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani emphasizing the need for expansion of cooperation with Japan expressed hope that his visit to Tokyo would pave the ground for expansion of relations.

Larijani left Tehran for Tokyo Monday night ranking a top political- economic delegation for a five-day visit. Before his departure, he said that his visit comes in response to an invitation extended by his Japanese counterpart.

Larijani said that the expansion of Iran-Japan economic cooperation was one of the other aims of the visit. “Japan is one of the most important, influential Asian countries and the two countries’ relations are at a good level, but Iran wishes to further expand its cooperation with Japan,” he added.

“Keeping in mind the Islamic Republic of Iran’s policies we hope the two countries’ economic relations would tend from state level to private sectors level and this visit is a good opportunity for the two countries’ chambers of commerce for exchanging viewpoints,” he further said.

Larijani added that political consultations were another objective of the five day visit, reiterating, “Unfortunately the Middle East has become the scene of many bitter developments and that has decreased the opportunities for consultations.”/end
