Iran's Parliament speaker leaves for Tokyo

Tehran, Feb 23, IRNA – Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani departed Tehran for Tokyo, Japan, early Monday night.

Larijani is visiting Japan upon an invitation extended by his Japanese counterpart and will hold talks with that country’s different officials during the visit.

Larijani and his accompanying delegation were seen off at Tehran’s Mehrabad Airport by the president’s parliamentary representative Seyyed Mohammad Mirtajeddini and the Majlis Vice Speaker Ali-Akbar Aboutorabifard.

The accompanying delegation of the Majlis speaker in this five day visit is inclusive of the Head of the Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Ala’eddin Boroujerdi, MP Zohreh Elahian, Deputy Foreign Minister Hassan Qashqavi, and a number of other political and economic personalities.

Among the officials Larijani is scheduled to meet in addition to his Japanese counterpart there is the Senate speaker.

The Japanese foreign minister would meet and talk with Larijani at his residence on Wednesday evening.

He would also meet the Japanese prime minister during the five day visit.

A meeting with the head of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party and an address at a gathering of Japanese thinkers, scientists and academicians are among the Iranian Majlis speaker’s other agenda topics.

Larijani would also visit Japan’s Nagasaki city that was raised to ground during the World War II in a US atomic bombardment.

The Empire of Japan in Southeast Asia has a 120 to 130 million strong population and the Emperor’s powers are very limited.

Iran and Japan have had official political relations during the past eighty years and last year the two countries’ officials left behind a very dynamic year in terms of political cooperation and top officials’ interactions./end
