PRESIDENT CALLS ON ALL PARTIES TO MAINTAIN ORDER
Jakarta, June 25 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has called on all parties to maintain security and order in the run up to next year's general election.
"Maintain public security and order in Jakarta and other areas across the country, because unstable security and order will have a negative impact on our economy," the president said at the State Palace here on Wednesday.
Speaking at a function to mark International Occupational Health and Safety Day, the head of state said unstable security and order would undo the results of the hard work all parties had done in the past few years to improve the investment and economic climate in the country.
"If security and order are unstable, all of the people of Indonesia will lose. Therefore, let us work together to prevent order and security disturbances from happening in the country," the president said.
He also said that in the run up to 2009 general election, all parties should uphold ethical norms in their electoral campaigns to achieve their political aspirations.
"Try to serve your political interests in ethical manner. Use a healthy mechanism and compete in a healthy way in the election campaigns," Yudhoyono said, adding that legislative campaigns would start next month and that the General Election Commission (KPU) would soon issue the regulations.
