Iran-Congo review expansion of scientific cooperation

Tehran, Feb 22, IRNA - The Democratic Republic of Congo’s Speaker of National Assembly Evariste Boshab conferred on Sunday with Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki on expansion of mutual relations and cooperation.
During the meeting, both sides discussed latest international developments and explored avenues for bolstering mutual ties mainly in scientific fields.
Congo is willing to benefit from Iran’s invaluable experiences and capabilities in various scientific fields, Bohab said.
The Iranian foreign minister highlighted the struggles of the Cogolese people for attaining independence and said that such under the leadership of late Joseph Kabila was very admirable.
“We believe that Africa is not poor and there are huge natural and mineral resources which can bring many changes for its people,” Mottaki said.
The African people should find ways to properly use such high potentials through collective cooperation with independent states, he said.
Having sincere and hard-working people is among the big assets of African continent, he said, adding that Iran fully backs freedom, security, stability and welfare of African nations.
Iran is to promote friendly ties with Congo based on justice with an aim of transferring its experiences in various fields to that country, Mottaki said.
Expansion of parliamentary cooperation between the two countries would play a leading role in promoting ties between the two countries, he said.
The Congolese speaker of National Assembly said his country welcomes expansion of relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran and calls for broadening of such friendly ties between the two nations. He also underlined that Congo desires to make use of Iran’s scientific achievements in various fields.
“We need Iran’s assistance in various fields such as construction of bridges, dams, roads and industrial factories,” he said.
Congo expects to witness a new chapter in its ties and cooperation with Iran, he said.
Evariste Boshab and his accompanying delegation arrived in Tehran on Saturday for talks with Iranian officials on issues of mutual interests./end
