Ahmadinejad:So-called superpowers are after own interests

Tehran, Feb 22, IRNA – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Sunday that the so-called superpowers are just after their own interests and are ready to sacrifice other nations to attain their sinister goals to spread insecurity in the region.
President Ahmadinejad made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Azeri Parliament Speaker Ogtay Asadov in Tehran on Sunday.
At the meeting, President Ahmadinejad called for upgrading the current level of regional cooperation to effectively deal with the plots hatched by global arrogance.
No obstacle can prevent expansion of friendly ties between Iran and Azerbaijan, said the Iranian president, adding that the prospects of both sides' relations is very promising.
Referring to cultural and deep-rooted ties between the two nations, he said Iran backs development and promotion of security in Azerbaijan and underlined that the two sides were pursuing plans to further bolster their mutual and regional cooperation.
Iran and Azerbaijan should expand bilateral cooperation in the Caspian Sea region, said the Iranian president.
Bullying powers are helpless in dealing with global developments and this requires other countries to step up cooperation and coordination to make use of the current situation, underlined the Iranian president.
Countries in the region should adopt a new strategy to expand regional cooperation on commerce and economy and even choose a common currency in their transactions to get rid of US dollar, he said.
Expansion of parliamentary cooperation between the two countries can increase the scope of activities in various sectors, he pointed out.
The Azeri parliament speaker, for his part, described the two sdies' relations as friendly and brotherly and voiced satisfaction with the expansion of such ties between the two countries.
Superpowers never mind the interests of other nations or their own nations, he said, adding that they are merely after their own interests and never want to help resolve the problems of other countries.
Caspian Sea littoral states should help increase the current level of regional cooperation to meet their own interests, he said.
Lauding Iran’s measure to remove visa requirements for Azeri nationals visiting Iran, he promised to spare no effort to do the same for Iranian nationals willing to visit Azerbaijan./end
