Official urges IAEA to study Iran's n-case from legal view
Tehran, Feb 21, IRNA – Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mihman-Parast here on Sunday urged the International Atomic Energy Agency to regard Iran’s peaceful nuclear program from legal perspectives.
Talking to IRNA, he called on the United Nations nuclear watchdog to uphold its prestige and identity and never let the will of certain states be imposed on the international community.
Referring to the recent report issued by the new IAEA director general on Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities, he added that the Islamic Republic of Iran has so far fulfilled all its commitments to the agency.
Iran’s nuclear dossier will be on its right track, if the agency observes legitimate rights of the Islamic Republic, the FM spokesman noted.
Tehran removed all the existing ambiguities announced by the IAEA and received the approval of the body to that end, he said.
All the agency’s committed members and signatories to the NPT should enjoy their legitimate rights, he said.
There are several countries that are neither IAEA members nor signatories to the NPT, he said, regretting that those countries which have not fulfilled their commitments have even produced nuclear weapons.
The objective of such reports is to exert political pressures on the Islamic Republic and to deprive the nation from pursuance of modern technology, Mihman-Parast noted.
The new IAEA director general should underline the need to implement nuclear disarmament, he said, adding that the countries which possess nuclear weapons are the main threats.
The international community expects all countries to remain committed to their pledges and urge those states possessing nuclear weapons to annihilate their nuclear arsenals./end
