Mihman-Parast: IAEA should uphold its prestige, identity

Tehran, Feb 21, IRNA – Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mihman-Parast said on Saturday that the IAEA should uphold its prestige and identity and never let the will of some specific countries be imposed on the international community through politically motivated moves.
While touring the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRAN), he underlined Iran's stance in response to the 21st report issued by the IAEA director general on Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities.
The IAEA should regard Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities from legal perspectives, he said.
Iran has fully abided by all its pledges and commitments to the IAEA, he said, adding that “Iran’s nuclear dossier will be on its right track, if they observe our legitimate rights to this effect.”
Iran explicitly removed all existing ambiguities posed by the IAEA and got the approval of the body to this end, he underlined.
All signatories to the NPT who are committed to their pledges should benefit from their legitimate rights, he said.
There are many countries that are not members of the IAEA and have not committed to their obligations and have managed to manufacture nuclear weapons, he underlined.
Politically motivated moves regarded as mere pretexts to deprive Iran from attaining peaceful nuclear power for civilian purposes are not acceptable, he pointed out.
The IAEA director general should underline the implementation of clause six of the NPT (nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty), he said, adding that the countries which possess nuclear weapons should be regarded as the main threat.
These countries have employed nuclear weapons to attain their sinister goals barbarically and claimed lives of many innocent civilians round the globe, he underlined.
All should call for dismanteling of nuclear weapons, he said, adding that the international community expects some very specific countries to remain committed to their pledges and manage to destroy their nuclear arsenals./end
