COURSE ON FIELD SURVEY OF DISPLACED KICKED OFF IN JAWF
JAWF, Feb.17 (Saba) - A training course was kicked off here on
Wednesday for the field team charged with surveying the displaced
people due to the war in Saada province ,.
The two-day course, organized by ADRA organization and funded by
UNHCR aims to introduce 12 participants to skills and knowledge
about the ways and mechanism to implement the field survey of
displaced people.
At the course opening, Undersecretary of Jawf province urged the
Executive Unit for displaced in the province to carry out the field
survey completely, confirming the province's readiness to present
all support to contribute to succeed the survey process accurately.
According to the UN, about 250,000 have been displaced due to the
rebellion war ignited by al-Houthi rebels in Saada province,
northern Yemen.
The recent ceasefire announced last week by President Ali Abdullah
Saleh, after the rebels had announced their acceptance to the
government's six conditions and the mechanism to implement them,
ended a years-long conflict between the government troops and
al-Houthi rebels in Saada.
The six conditions were:
- Al-Houthi commitment to ceasefire, eliminating landmines and
leaving positions and hideouts. - Rebel withdrawal from all
districts in Saada and stopping interference in the local
government's duties. - Returning looted Yemeni and Saudi military
and public equipment and properties. - releasing Yemeni and Saudi
captives. - Obeying the law and constitution. - Pledging not to
attack Saudi lands.
Saada has witnessed a sporadic six-year war between the government
troops and al-Houthi rebels since 2004.
The last round of the war was erupted in August 2009.
