Iran to install new generation of centrifuges: Ahmadinejad

TEHRAN, Feb. 17 (MNA) -- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has announced that Iran will soon install a new generation of nuclear centrifuges with a capacity five times greater than the devices it currently uses.
Iran needs a number of new centrifuges to provide fuel for its nuclear power plants and will soon install the centrifuges, Ahmadinejad told reporters at a press conference in Tehran on Tuesday.
And Iran has begun producing 20 percent enriched uranium and will press ahead with the production, he stated.
He also said International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors have been informed that Iran has mastered the technology to enrich nuclear fuel to the 20 percent level, and officials from other countries can visit the Tehran research reactor when the 20 percent nuclear fuel is powering the reactor.
Commenting on certain Western countries’ efforts to impose a new round of sanctions on Iran, the president said that over the past 31 years, Iranians have learned how to live under the most difficult circumstances and at the same time make great progress.
The West should open their eyes and change their approach from confrontation to cooperation, Ahmadinejad said.
If anyone takes an action against Iran, the Islamic Republic’s response will not be the same as it was in the past, and Iran will definitely retaliate in a way that will make them regret their actions, he added.
Commenting on a UN-drafted deal for a nuclear fuel swap, Ahmadinejad said the proposal is still on the table and Iran is ready to exchange its low-enriched fuel for 20 percent enriched nuclear fuel within a just framework.
He went on to say that NATO is trying to contain India and China because they are emerging economic powers, and a glance at history shows that the West always tries to disrupt emerging economies.
He also stated that Russia has not properly responded to the presence of NATO forces near its borders and in Afghanistan because Russian officials have the illusion that NATO will be bogged down in Afghanistan, but they will realize their mistake very soon.
Asked about U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s recent remarks, in which she said that Iran is becoming a military dictatorship, Ahmadinejad said he does not take her comments seriously because they contradict other U.S. officials’ statements and it is unclear whether she was speaking for the government of the United States or for certain factions within the U.S. administration.
