Local body polls being held with good intention: Dr Zillur

DHAKA, Bangladesh, June 24 (BSS)- Education and Commerce Adviser Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman said today the local government elections
are being held with a good intention to strengthen the base of
democracy on the basis of the roadmap.

Calling upon all to participate in the polls, he said there
is no reason for disruption of the national polls due to the
holding of the local body elections.

Rather, it would play an important role in creating
confidence and election atmosphere in the country, Dr Zillur told
journalists after a meeting with Communications, Housing and
Works Adviser Major General (retd) Ghulam Quader at his office.

Regarding the comments about the local government polls by
political parties, the education adviser said it is not
opposition to their principle.

He said this election is not held organizationally, but
grassroots political leaders participate in it which is
continuing since the independence.

Dr Zillur said there will be no possibilities for disruption
of holding national polls as local body elections would be
completed by October this year.
