Sanctions against Iran will reflect negatively on region

Beirut, Feb 16, IRNA – Lebanese Parliament speaker emphasizing sanctions against Iran would reflect negatively on region said here Monday dialogue is best way to solve west’s nuclear conflict with Tehran.
According to IRNA correspondent in Nabih Beirut, Berri made the comment in a meeting with the visiting French Senate Speaker Gerar Larcher, adding, “The parliaments can take long strides towards solving the Middle East crises.”
The Lebanese Parliament speaker meanwhile noted, “We welcome the EU stands recently adopted on Palestine issue and ask France and the European Union to mount pressure over Israel to end its Jewish settlement construction at Palestinian territories for good.”
Welcoming the joint Russian-French initiative for holding an international conference on Middle East, he added, “The Middle East is going through a very critical era of its history and the ongoing crises in it need to be settled gradually, observing patience.”
He added, “The Middle East needs to get rid of the nuclear weapons, particularly of the nuclear warheads of Israel, and to be declared as a nuclear-free zone.”
Larcher, too, referring to the good relations between Lebanon and Paris, said, “France is asking for the full implementation of the parliamentary cooperation pact signed between the two countries in the year 2002.”
The French Senate speaker said that the Lebanon’s status is a lot better today than it was in the past adding, “This is very pleasing for Lebanon’s friends.”
The Lebanese Parliament Speaker also urged France to take a “firm stand” to stop Israel from launching a new attack on Lebanon.
“In view of its ties and influence, we demand France take a firm stand to prevent Israel from attacking Lebanon … and from turning Lebanon into an arena for regional proxy wars,” Berri said at a luncheon with Larcher.
The dinner was attended by Prime Minister Saad Hariri.
His statement came amid heightened concern over Israeli warnings that all of Lebanon, including the Lebanese Cabinet, would be targeted in the event of a Hezbollah attack on Israel.
Zionist regime officials have been locked in a war of words with Syrian leaders as well.
Prime Minister Saad Hariri has described the Zionists’ threats and military activity as “escalating” and “really dangerous”.
The Syrian President Bashar Assad, too, has said that Damascus would back “The government and the people of Lebanon against any possible Israeli aggression launched on Lebanon.”
Larcher, in turn, said that bilateral relations are built on mutual respect./end
