Yemenis in Malaysia must be careful
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb. 14 (Saba) - The Yemeni
embassy in Malaysia is contacting the country's authorities over two Yemeni students
who were
arrested three weeks ago on suspension of having links with extremist Islamic
groups.
Officials at the embassy affirmed that the embassy is assuming its
responsibility towards
the release of the two nationals, amid misunderstanding of the media dealing with
the topic inaccurately. The point is that the Malaysian authorities have taken
precautionary
measures in line with those taken in other countries aimed at foiling possible
terror attacks after the attempted Detroit bombing. We also aim to introduce the
Yemenis to
Malaysian rules and enforced laws to avoid being suspected, the officials said.
Recently, the embassy warned all Yemenis in Malaysia, students, workers and
businessmen, to
avoid attending suspected closed religious sessions and classes. All Yemenis must
avoid being at classes unauthorized by Malaysian authorities because violators would
be
punished, Abdullah al-Jaboobi, security counsel at the embassy said. Violators would
be imprisoned, tried and deported under the national laws of Malaysia, he warned. He
also warned the Yemenis not to carry white and wood weapons, even fireworks, because
if they do they will be questioned. Malaysian authorities have recently taken
measures
at its airports and toughened rules against unlicensed religious activities amid
fears of incitement by extremists. MD/FR
