Fallen tree shortens Bathurst race

A fallen tree stole an hour of racing time from the Bathurst 12 Hour enduro won for
the second time by Paul Morris on Sunday.
The tree completely blocked the track at the top of Conrod Straight during the
seventh hour but the only damage was to a spectator's parked car.
The field was following the safety car at the time due to poor visibility and they
simply parked before the exit from Forrest's Elbow for just under an hour while the
wood was cut up and removed.
The safety car was also out at the finish as Morris drove home a BMW 335 shared with
fellow former touring car star John Bowe and owner Gary Holt.
The yellow period was called 11 minutes from the end while a stopped Holden
Commodore was moved to safety.
At that time Morris was 30 seconds clear of the second-placed Mitsubishi Lancer
driven by David Wall, his father Des and Trevor Symonds.
Wall was leading when the tree fell.
Third place went to another Mitsubishi shared by Glenn Seaton, Neil Crompton and
Mark King.
A total of 42 production cars started the race at 6.30am AEDT and the winner
completed 202 laps comprising 1254.4km.
