THREE AKKBB ACTIVISTS SUMMONED BY POLICE

Jakarta, June 23 (ANTARA) - Three activists of the National Alliance for Freedom of Religion and Faith (AKKBB) were to be questioned by Jakarta Police on Monday in connection with the Monas (National Monument) incident which occurred on June 1, 2008, their lawyer said.

The three AKKBB activists were Anick HT (coordiaator), Saidiman (action coordinator), and Ilma (action secretary), Nopemmerson Saragih, a member of the Pancasila Defenders' Team acting as the AKKBB activists' lawyer, said here on Monday.

"Anick was summoned for questioning again today to give additional information because the police interrogation conducted last week wa not yet finished but he had to leave earlier for another urgent appointment," Saragih said.

Last week, the Jakarta Police summoned three AKKBB activists, namely Tri Agus, Anick HT, and Febi Yonata.

Over 10 AKKBB activists were injured in the attack by FPI (Islam Defenders' Front) members on an AKKBB rally at the National Monument (Monas) last June 1.

Several days later, the Jakarta Police detained scores of FPI members, including FPI chief Habib Rizieq. Eleven FPI members were declared as fugitives by the Jakarta Police.

However, the FPI then also reported AKKBB to the Jakarta Police for alleged breaches of the law so that the police had to process the FPI complaints by summoning a number of AKKBB activists.

The AKKBB activists were alleged to have violated Criminal Code articles 310, 311, and 160 on slander, libel and provocation as well as articles in the Law on Emergency Situations No. 12/1951 on possession of weapons and explosives.

Meanwhile, Munarman , from his police cell, had also reported certain parties for publishing a picture in which he was shown strangling an alleged AKKBB activist. He denied that he had strangled an AKKBB activist, saying he was trying to keep an FPI member from committing a violent act.
