YEMEN WORKS ON COMMITTEES AS PEACE EXPECTED AT ANY MOMENT
SANA'A, Feb. 11 (Saba) - Post-war committees are underway in Yemen amid expectations an end to the conflict in the north comes at any moment after the Houthi accepted the truce conditions and the government accepted that the Houthi be part of committees to implement them.
Sources familiar with the matter told 26sep.net on Thursday that the committees include a committee from Parliament and Shura Council to oversee implementing the conditions in the reality and a committee to tackle the impacts of the war in Saada and a third committee to contribute to arrangements for bringing peace into the region.
They will supervise reopening roads, Houthi withdrawal from their positions, the return of the displaced and releasing those who were arrested in connection with the rebellion.
The second committee will focus on establishing general reconciliation to prevent revenge or attacks and assessing material losses and counting them in various areas with the aim to help how to rebuild the ravaged areas.
On Tuesday, a Yemeni official said that a deal to end the war with the Houthi rebels who have fought the authorities since 2004 was close.
The security source said the government and the rebels have recently been exchanging views and proposals for a final deal to end the conflict.
The announcement came days after the government set a timetable for ending the military operations that will start once the rebels start implementing the truce conditions announced by the government.
'We handed the rebels through mediators our terms including the timetable and mechanism to implement the conditions,' officials said.
Fresh confrontations between the army and the insurgents started in mid-August 2009, displacing tens of thousands of the people in Saada and costing the country dearly.
