Adelaide sign van Dijk for ACL campaign

Brisbane Roar striker Sergio van Dijk will join Adelaide United for their upcoming
Asian Champions League campaign.
The A-League's second highest scorer this season with 13 goals has signed a
six-month deal with the Reds, which will see him play in the Champions League group
stage and the possible round of 16 if they qualify.
With Adelaide only managing 22 goals from their 26 games in the A-League this year,
van Dijk's recruitment has been welcomed by Reds coach Aurelio Vidmar.
"We've signed Sergio for the Asian Champions League which is great, he'll certainly
bolster and strengthen our squad," Vidmar said.
"He's got a fair bit of experience. He has scored over 20 goals in the last two
years while he's been in the A-League, he certainly knows where the goals are so
were looking forward to his inclusion and looking forward to Sergio getting amongst
the boys and doing his very best for us in the Asian Champions League and hopefully
getting us some goals."
Van Dijk will play his 50th and final A-League match for the Roar in Perth this
Saturday before joining up with Adelaide, who start their Champions League campaign
against Korean team Pohang Steelers on February 24 at Hindmarsh Stadium.
"Of course I'm looking forward to playing in the highest club tournament in Asia and
I'm really looking forward to coming to join the guys in Adelaide," the 27-year-old
said.
"I'm a striker so I hope I can bring them goals and help the team accomplish some
good things in the Champions League and that we can go as far as we can."
Van Dijk's addition means he will take up one of the Reds' three foreign spots on
their ACL roster, with Vidmar having until Wednesday to submit his final squad.
