General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam extends his best wishes

Hanoi (VNA) – General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nong Duc Manh,
on behalf of the Party and State, on Feb. 10 extended his best wishes to all
Vietnamese people on the occasion of the traditional Lunar New Year festival (Tet).

As a new spring is approaching in Vietnam , the Party leader expressed his
pleasure at witnessing the country overcoming a year of many difficulties and
challenges, and obtaining important achievements.

The country halted the economic slowdown and went on to achieve a high rate of
growth, stabilising the macro economy, ensuring social welfare for all
people--especially the poor--strengthening the political system and the national
solidarity bloc, maintaining national defence and security, and expanding diplomatic
relations. The country’s power and position were constantly improved in the
international arena.

General Secretary Manh said that 2010 will see many historical, political, cultural
and external events in Vietnam .

This year will witness the completion of the country’s implementation of its
socio-economic development strategy for 2001-2010, its socio-economic development
plan for 2006-2010, and the holding of the 11th Party Congress, he said.

He said that in 2010, the Party, the entire people and the army will make all-out
efforts to develop all the country’s potential and resources and implement
synchronous measures to build the economy at an even higher rate of growth than
2009.

He took this occasion to express his sincere thanks to entire people, the army and
foreign expatriates for their contributions to the above-mentioned achievements and
for their contributions in future.

He also thanked foreign countries and international organisations for their
effective cooperation and assistance to Vietnam over the past year.-Enditem
