UN RENEWS SUPPORTING YEMEN TO FACE IN IMMIGRATION CHALLENGES
SANA'A, Feb. 10 (Saba) - UN has renewed its willingness to continue
to support Yemen financially and politically to face the challenges
of illegal immigration from the Horn of Africa.
In the opening of a workshop on reviewing immigration policies in
Yemen, the representative of the European Union praised in her
speech the role of Yemen as a host country for huge numbers of the
Somali refugees. A matter that is required more assistance to the
Yemeni government.
She also highlighted the economic, social and political burdens that
are negatively impacted Yemen.
For his part, Minister of Expatriate Affairs Ahmed Hussein said that
"Yemen is suffering from the escalating number of the illegal
migrants from the Horn of Africa, which has reached 800,000
refugees, according to international organization estimations".
The economic and social burdens of the illegal immigration make it
worse on Yemen," he added.
He has applauded the strong role the international organizations,
topped by the International Organization of Immigration (IOM), play
in Yemen to alleviate the problem's impacts.
The two-day EU-organized workshop aims to train 30 participants on
how to review immigration policies in addition to present
international experiences in this regard.
