ADB supports to Bangladesh's economic development will continue

DHAKA, Bangladesh, June 23 (BSS) - Asian Development Bank (ADB) will
continue its support to further economic development of Bangladesh.

The assurance came today while the visiting ADB board of
directors called on Chief Adviser Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed at his
office here.

The six-member ADB delegation was led by executive director
and team leader Sebastian Paust. ADB Country Director Ms Hua Du
was present on the occasion.

After the call on, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser Syed
Fahim Munaim told journalists that Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed urged the
ADB to assist Bangladesh in infrastructural development including
transport network and energy sector.

The Chief Adviser sought ADB's cooperation in constructing
the Padma Bridge, a mega project and hoped that it would be
economically viable like the Jamuna bridge.

Referring to their interaction with different sections of
people, the ADB delegation said they are highly impressed with
the multifarious development efforts undertaken by the present
government as well as the institutional reforms.

The ADB delegation appreciated the government for facing a
number of challenges successfully including floods and cyclone
and at the same time keeping the pace of economic growth forward.

Dr Fakhruddin told the delegation that his government is
moving forward for holding all future elections in a high
standard manner and the general elections in the country will be
held in December next according to the roadmap.

Upholding the potentials of the country before the ADB
delegation, the Chief Adviser said Bangladesh would be a mid-
income level country by next 15 years if all concerned work
unitedly and sincerely.

Referring to success of the Election Commission in
completing voter ID card of 80 million voters with photographs,
the Chief Adviser said it proves strength and efficiency of
Bangladesh.
