Iranian nabbed with 3kg of ‘ice’

BANGKOK, Feb 10 (TNA) – An Iranian man was arrested Wednesday at Thailand’s Suvarnabhumi Airport for allegedly smuggling nearly three kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as "ice," worth Bt10 million (US$300,000).

Noroozi Mojtaba, 34, who arrived in Bangkok from the United Arab Emirates’ Dubai, was detained by customs officials at the international arrival terminal.

The suspected drug smuggler designed his baggage in order to conceal the drug from screening.

According to the investigation, Mr Noroozi said that he was a tailor in Dubai and travelled to Thailand to buy cloth.

He said his friend asked him to smuggle the drug and to drop it at a Pratunam area apartment without being paid in return.

However, the authorities did not believe his confession and sent him to the Narcotics Suppression Bureau to find accomplices from Middle East linked to drug smuggling in the kingdom.

Customs Department Director-General Somchai Sajjapong reported that the agency has arrested 15 persons in relation to drug cases, with impounded exhibits valued at Bt52 million (over $1.5 million). (TNA)
