FISHERIES PROJECTS TO BE FUNDED BY EU IN YEMEN DISCUSSED
SANA'A,Feb.08 (Saba)- Minister of Fisheries Mohamed Shamlan
discussed here on Monday with the European Union (EU)'s team charged
with planning of future projects of fisheries sector the projects to
be financed by the EU in Yemen in the coming period.
In the meeting, the two sides identified the future projects in
fisheries sector in support of the fisheries information center,
fishermen local societies' development and fisheries stock study as
well as rehabilitation of the private sector working in the
fisheries field.
Shamlan reviewed the difficulties that face fishermen along the
coast of the country, including the lack of infrastructure, unlading
centers, laboratories and other necessary facilities required to
preserve the fish production quality.
He valued the EU's support to the fisheries sector in Yemen, and the
last was allocation of about € 11 million for preparation and
implementation of the national strategy of the fisheries sector.
Meanwhile, Shamlan affirmed the need to strengthen the cooperation
between Yemen and the EU in the fisheries sector and to focus on
development of the fishermen local societies by setting up projects
of sanitation, water, electricity and other projects required for
promoting their living.
For his part, Head of the EU team indicated the fisheries sector's
role in providing the food security to a wide segment of population
locally and internationally, pointing that the team would work to
implement a number of projects serving the infrastructure and
information of the sector.
