Iranian puppet show to be performed in Indian cities
TEHRAN, Feb. 6 (MNA) -- The Iranian puppetry troupe Apple Tree will be performing a traditional puppet show named “The Bald Champion” (Pahlavan Kachal) in the Indian cities of New Delhi, Mumbai and Gurgaon for 10 days opening on February 9.
The troupe is invited to the annual Ishara International Puppet Festival which opened in Delhi on January 27. The program will run in Mumbai from February 10 to 15.
Led by Majid Giahchi, the troupe consists of 4 female members and has previously staged the show at international events in Ireland, Belarus, Poland, Turkey, Italy and Serbia.
“The traditional play has been forgotten for years, but the Apple Tree troupe was able to revive the art form after carrying out research on it in 2005,” said Giahchi.
He added that the troupe has been active and has been able to perform new plays in the country every year.
Giahchi asked for further support by the public sector and said, “When a troupe attends an international event, it acts as an ambassador of the art and culture of Iran, so it needs to be supported financially.”
