Western tact on nuclear fuel is ‘political deception’

TEHRAN, Feb. 6 (MNA) – Majlis (Parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani said on Saturday the West seeks to deceive Iran about its nuclear fuel stockpile under the pretext how to provide nuclear fuel for the Tehran research reactor.
“The West’s behavior in this regard is a kind of political deception,” said the senior Iranian lawmaker.
“We know how to supply fuel for the reactor,” he emphasized.
Iran has said the first priority is to buy 20 percent enriched nuclear fuel for the Tehran medical reactor. However, officials have insisted if the nuclear suppliers group (NSG) refuses to sell the fuel Iran itself will enrich uranium to 20 percent.
Larijani said the West says Iran should send the fuel outside the country for reprocessing in whatever way it sees fit and threaten if Iran does not follow the decisions, it will punish Iran but it is clearly a political deception.
Larijani censures U.S. contradictory policies
Elsewhere in his remarks, Larijani criticized the United States for its contradictory stance on Iran’s nuclear issue.
“On the one hand they say they want to negotiate (and) on the other hand the Senate passes a gasoline sanctions against Iran,” he said.
“If they seek to settle the dispute through negotiation, why do they adopt the policy of threat?”
Larijani said it seems that the United States does not intend to change its hegemonic attitude; he said the previous administration’s stances were more overt but the current administration’s behavior is more sophisticated.
