Melbourne carjack robber arrested

A car thief who allegedly terrorised women in Melbourne's western suburbs has been
arrested after 48 hours on the run, police say.
The 38-year-old Melton man, who is suspected of robbing women at knifepoint,
stealing their cars and holding a knife to a three-year-old's girl's throat in front
of her mother, was apprehended at Tullamarine about 5.10pm (AEDT) on Saturday,
police said.
The arrest at the intersection of Mickleham Road and Melrose Drive followed a
40-minute police pursuit from the central Victorian town of Kyneton.
Police followed an allegedly stolen black Honda Jazz car before the man pulled over
after being convinced by police from a mobile phone.
Detective Senior Sergeant David Byrt told reporters the man was known to police.
"We talked him down and he was quite compliant when arrested."
The man was due to be questioned by detectives at the Footscray police station.
