Mottaki reaffirms peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear activities

Munich, Feb 6, IRNA - Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki on Friday reiterated the peaceful nature of his country's nuclear program in an interview with the Munich-based daily Sueddeutsche Zeitung.
"Iran's nuclear activities are peaceful. Nuclear weapons have no place in our military and security doctrine," Mottaki said.
"We have a very clear stance on nuclear weapons ... The era of atomic weapons is over," the minister added.
He stressed international rules were the basis of Iranian nuclear activities and Tehran's cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Mottaki said finding a common agreement on a nuclear fuel exchange
could pave the way for new cooperation.
He voiced cautious optimism about an "amicable solution" to the nuclear fuel swap issue, terming the current atmosphere "positive."
Mottaki was scheduled to address the high-profile Munich Security Conference late Friday evening./end
