Iran becomes member of UNESCO's Inter-Government Cultural Heritage Committee
Paris, June 21, IRNA - Islamic Republic of Iran was elected as a member of UNESCO's Inter-Government Cultural Heritage Committee from 10 to 2012 during Thursday session of that committee's General Assembly.
Iran's Permanent Ambassador at UNESCO, Mohammad-Reza Majidi, told IRNA
about the election in Paris, adding, "Keeping in mind Iran's rich
cultural heritage, the country's presence at this scene would provide
an appropriate opportunity for us to introduce our cultural heritage
sites to the international community."
He added, "This would meanwhile provide a golden opportunity for the
enthusiasts in getting better acquainted with the rich Iranian culture
and civilization."
Majidi said, "Presently we have many cultural heritage sites in the
process of being nationally registered and this presence would also
assist us in their registration at international organs." He referred
to the intensive consultations between the Asian, Oceania, and African
countries for achieving the objective, adding, "It was also agreed
that Zimbabwe would be a member of that committee from 2008 to 2010."
Membership period at UNESCO's Inter-Government Cultural Heritage
Committee is four years, that is shared between Iran and Zimbabwe for
the next term in accordance with the above mentioned close
consultations.
