Iran says examining reports on death of 5 Afghans on joint border
TEHRAN, Feb. 4 (MNA) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said here on Wednesday that Afghanistan had not notified Iran of any incident on the joint border.
Ramin Mehmanparast made the remarks in response to reports claiming that five Afghan nationals have been killed while they had illegally crossed the border into Iran.
The spokesman said the relevant officials are examining the reports.
Mehmanparast pointed to drug smuggling, security problems in Iran’s eastern neighbors, and illegal immigration as the main headaches, but he insisted that Iranian border guards show a high regard for human lives.
