Chopper crash kills 10 people in Yala

Yala, June 21 (TNA) - A helicopter crashed in the insurgency-torn southern province of Yala on Friday afternoon killing all ten people on board.

Seven forensic experts, two pilots and two offcials travelled by
helicopter to a site where border patrol police were attacked in a
mountaineous area in Bannang Sata district. Ten people were killed and one
official is still missing.

Engine failure apparently occurred after the helicopter passed 900 metres
beyond the Banglang dam.

The pilots tried an emergency landing but its rotor struck tree branches.
Viroj Buacharoon, commander of the Fourth Army Area ordered a special team
to search for the crash victims.

Six border patrol policemen were ambushed by suspected insurgents in
Yala's Bannang Sata district Friday morning. Police exchanged gunfire with
an unknown number of attackers. One officer was killed, another went
missing and four others were wounded. (TNA)
