Iranian, Azerbaijan officials confer

Baku, Feb 3, IRNA – Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister in Consulate Affairs Hassan Qashqavi conferred with Azerbaijan Republic Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov in Baku, Tuesday afternoon.

In the meeting, Mammadyarov welcomed developing relations between the two countries as well as visa-free regime imposed by Iran and said that a reciprocal action by Azerbaijan Republic is being considered, too.

The two sides also discussed reviving consulate meetings between the two countries, which had been ceased since 2005, and in this concern Qashqavi counterpart is to pay a visit to Tehran in the near future.

The two senior diplomats also underlined increasing commercial exchange level, which is currently around 600 million dollars, as well as long term agreement on natural gas selling by Azerbaijan Republic to Iran, which will be signed in the near future.

Mammadyarov and Qashqavi also discussed the construction project of twin towers dubbed as 'Nasim', which an Iranian company is building here and is the first tall complex building in Azerbaijan Republic.

Qashqavi, who has been in Baku since Monday, attended the opening ceremony for Iran’s embassy second building and also attended the ceremony for starting visa-free regime for Azerbaijan Republic citizens./end
