45,000 titles of books published in Iran

Tehran, Feb 2, IRNA -- Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad Hosseini said on Tuesday that some 45,000 titles of books have been published in the country and the figure is expected to exceed 55,000 by the end of the current Iranian year.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Second Book Fair Specialized on Children and Young Adults, he said that before the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, the figure was 500 to at most 1,000 titles each year.
“The remarkable rise in the figure must be regarded as blessings of the Islamic Revolution,” he added. He thanked organizers of the event.
The minister called for holding educational workshops and meetings on the culture of book reading.
Introducing foreign and Iranian books which were successful at the international level is also essential, he said.
The Book Fair Specialized on Children and Young Adults opened in the capital on February 2 and will work until February 9.
