Providing fuel for Tehran reactor still on table: spokesman

Tehran, Feb 2, IRNA – Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mihman-Parast said on Tuesday that the issue of providing fuel for the Tehran reactor is still on the table.

Talking to reporters during his weekly press briefing, he expressed hope that the issue would be concluded through an “appropriate formula or approach”.

On discussions held between Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki and French and Brazilian officials on the sidelines of the Davos meeting, he said continued consultations with various countries is an indication to the will of the friendly nations to cooperate with Iran on its peaceful nuclear program.

As to the new US moves in the Persian Gulf region, Mihman-Parast reiterated that such moves aimed at interfering in regional affairs by foreign countries are doomed to failure.

Tehran enjoys close and amicable ties with all regional states, he said, stressing that such ties would lead to establishment of peace and stability throughout the region.

Asked whether the arrest of the two German diplomats involved in the riots of the Ashura Day (December 27) in Tehran would have any effects on Tehran-Berlin relations, the spokesman said necessary decisions would be taken at the appropriate time.

On imposition of new sanctions on Iran, he reiterated that the issue of embargos is not a new anti-Iran move.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has been faced with various kinds of embargos in the past three decades, he said, adding that such moves have political nature and are aimed at putting Tehran under political pressures./end
