Tapan Sinha, Lata to be conferred Lifetime Achievement award

New Delhi, June 19 (PTI) Thespian Dilip Kumar, veteran
film maker Tapan Sinha, playback singer Lata Mangeshkar and
veteran Kannada film actress Saroja Devi would be conferred
with "One Time Award for Life Time Achievement" honour by the
government.

The well known film personalities are being honoured
to commmemorate the 60th anniversary of India's Independence.

However, keeping in mind Sinha's ill health, the Governor
of West Bengal would confer the award on him on Friday (June
20) at his residence in Kolkata. Minister for Information and
Broadcasting P.R. Dasmunsi would also be present on the
occasion.

The remaining personalities would be honoured by
President Pratibha Patil at a later date.

Sinha is most well known for his films like 'Uphaar'
(1955), 'Kabuliwala' (1957), 'Haatey Bazaare' (1967), 'Sagina
Mahato' (1970) and 'Safed Haathi' (1977).

Dilip Kumar redefined the craft of acting with his method
acting style and ruled the box office in the '50s and '60s.
The eight time Filmfare award winner was conferred with
Dadasaheb Phalke award in 1995 for his lifetime contribution
to cinema.

Lata Mangeshkar started her singing career in the early
'40s as a teenager and went on to rule the roost in the world
of playback.

Noted Kannada actress Saroja Devi acted in Tamil, Telugu
and Malayalam films during her career in the '50s and '60s.
