Iran-Egypt call for more active role of NAM

Tehran, Feb 1, IRNA – Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki conferred on Sunday with his Egyptian counterpart Ahmed Abul Gheit on regional and global developments in Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 14th Summit Meeting of the African Union where both sides called on NAM’s troika to play a much more active role.
At the meeting, the two foreign ministers agreed to hold a joint session in the future.
NAM’s troika has taken significant stands on Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities.
The foreign ministers of Iran, Egypt and Cuba are determined to broaden their scope of activities within NAM’s protocol.
Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki heading a delegation arrived in Ethiopia on Saturday evening to attend the 14th Summit Meeting of the African Union.
He is to confer with Somalia’s foreign minister on issues of mutual interest as well as regional developments.
Iran is attending the meeting as an observer.
The meeting started its work on Sunday January 31.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Mottaki is to meet and discuss bilateral ties as well as international and regional issues with a number of senior officials of the union.
The motto of the 14th Summit Meeting of the African Union is 'Information Technology and Communication in Africa, Development Outlook'.
Presidents and prime ministers of 53 member countries of the union are participating in the 3-day meeting./end
